The relaxed atmosphere is the best reason to dine at Francesca's
North, the suburban sister of Lakeview's Mia Francesca. That, and
the gargantuan portions of food. Do not even consider more than
two courses and dessert. You'll still take food home.
The Italian menu changes weekly, and there are often daily specials.
Appetizers are entree-sized.
Pasta dishes are generally good, though watch out for garlic overload.
A small bathtub of ravioli con melanzane (eggplant-filled ravioli
in spicy tomato basil sauce) had enough garlic to give Dracula
the vapors. Among entrees, veal medallions is a good bet, the toothsome
chunks of veal buried in mushrooms and savory brandy sauce.
Guess whatdesserts are big enough to share. Options range
from an OK tiramisu to a truly grand goat cheese cherry custard.
During the week, the roomy bar is a good place to eat appetizers
and pizzas. On weekends, forget about it; the bar is a melee of
customers waiting for tables.

Francesca's North opened in May and instantly became the hottest
spot on The North Shore - for good reason. Scott Harris has mastered
the art of serving generous portions of good food at low prices
in stylish simple surroundings with friendly service - a winning
formula that eludes so many.
